about

An acoustic tribute to the iconic Black Metal progenitors, Ulver.

Lyrics written in an obscure literary register of Dano-Norwegian, from the 17th century.

lyrics

De ventede Tøsens Hiemkomst
Hun vaer i mørck Skog faren vild
Sneens Tepper hafde bredet sig hen
Paa Stien hiem - hendes eeneste Ven

Om hun bare kunde
Følge Stiernernes Baner
Ey hun skulde vildfare
Blandt disse mørcke Graner

Skogens mørcke Arme forbarmede sig ofver dend fremmede Giæst
Giorde hende vaer i siine inderste Tankers Veemod
At i Bergekongens Kammer tørstes efter Christenblod

[De Underjordiske:]
«Det nærmer sig stille: Een sørgeklæst Pige
Sidder derinde med foldede Hænder
Hun sender een Bøn til det himmeldske Rige»

Ofver hendes Hode
Det drybber fra Qviist
Draabe for Draabe som Blodet
Fra Kroppen til Jesu Christ

[Pigen:]
«Aa, eismal i ein uggin Skog
Eg kjenn at i Kveld
I Kveld tenkjer ingen paa meg»

Translation by Kveldulf:

Led Astray In The Forest of Sorcery

They awaited the maiden's homecoming
She was led astray in the dim forest
The carpet of snow had broadened itself
On the pathway home - her only friend

O, if only she could
Follow the starry trails
She would be lost no longer
Amongst these dark spruces

The forest's dark arms embraced their foreign guest
And sowed sadness within her thoughts
The court of the Mountain King thirsted for Christian blood

[The people from beneath the earth:]
"Approaching in silence, a grieving maid
She sits with hands joined in prayer
And sends a plea to the Kingdom of Heaven"

Upon her head
From branchlets, it drips
Drop by drop, as did blood
From the body of Christ

[The maiden:]
"Lo! Alone in a terrible forest
I do feel that on this eve
Upon this eve, nobody is thinking of me."
